Dr. Mohammad W. Amer, along with Prof. Mohammed Rasheed from the University of Jordan, Dr Francesco Barzagli from CNR-Italy, Prof. Akl Awwad from the Royal Scientific Society, Dr. Marc Marshall from Monash University-Australia, and Dr. Jameel Alhesan from Zarqa University, heads the Separation of Chemicals (SC) research group. Their research focuses on environmental-analytical chemistry, particularly on the removal of pollutants from the environment using innovative methods. Additionally, they investigate the properties and extraction methods of carbon-rich materials such as oil shale, coal, plastic, and waste biomass using green extraction techniques like supercritical fluids to produce high-value chemicals. The IC leverages carbon materials for sustainable chemical production, employing advanced analytical techniques such as spectroscopic methods (NMR, FTIR, etc.) and chromatographic methods (GC-MS, LC-MS) to identify and quantify these chemicals. Their work addresses critical environmental challenges, advocating for the responsible use of chemicals and sustainable practices, and advancing the field of environmental-analytical chemistry.
